Obit" Ran Thursday December 26, 1901 page 7. In the Evening Times-Republican, Marshalltown, Iowa.
" LOST BOTH CHILDREN"
" Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Hopkins, Formerly of Marshalltown, Have a Sad Christmas"
"A telegram received in the city Wednesday evening at 6 o'clock from Creede, Col., by Mrs. Sophia Ferguson, of 208 East Webster street announced an extreme sad Christmas for Mr. and Mrs. Dallas E. Hopkins, formerly of this city, Rueben, age 4 years and Ruth 1 1/2 years of age, the only children of Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins, are both dead after an illness of two weeks with scarlet fever. The little girl died Tuesday forenoon at 11 o'clock and the boy at 2 o'clock Christmas afternoon. Mrs. Hopkins was formerly Miss Lottie Ferguson, daughter of Mrs. Sophia Ferguson."

Notice the typo of Reuben for Ruby.
Second notice about Ruby and Ruth's death. Ran Thursday Feb 20, 1901. in same newspaper.
" Mr. and Mrs. Dallas E. Hopklins, of Creede, Col. arrived in the city this afternoon and will remain for an indefinite visit with the later's mother, Mrs. Sophia Ferguson, sisters, Mrs C.A. Deuell, and Miss Ella Ferguson, brothers, Messrs, George W and Ed Ferguson, and other relatives and friends. Mr.Hopkins has been engaged in the Jewelry business at Creede, but is not to return there, as the altitude, which is about 10,000 feet, is too high for Mrs. Hopkins, who is in very poor health. Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins will return to Colorado, however, as the western climate is necessary because of Mr. Hopkins's health. Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins, it will be remembered, had the sad misfortune to lose their two daughters, Ruby and May, this winter, one dying Christmas eve and the other Christmas day, as the results of scarlet fever."

Ruby Olive Hopkins was most likely born in Marhalltown, Marshall County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Dallas Edgar Hopkins and Kittie (Lottie) Charlotte Ferguson.
Dallas Hopkins was the son of Matilda L. Straw and Perry D. Hopkins.
Dalles Hopkins was born on 2-15-1872 in Nevada, Story County, Iowa. He died 11-15-1944 Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.
Dalles, Kittie and son Chester are buried in the Riverside Cemetery, Marshalltown, Marshall County, Iowa. Also Dallas's second wife Minnie Seese-Batman-Hopkins.
Kittie was born Jan. 1871 in Iowa and died 3-11-1930 in Des Moines.
Dalles and Kittie married 10-1-1896 in Marshalltown, Iowa
Kittie Ferguson was the daughter of George W. Ferguson and Sophie Moore.

Ruby was the great granddaughter of Enoch Straw and Betsy Welch
Ruby shares a headstone with her sister Ruth Arlyne Hopkins who also died in 1901.
Dallas and Kitty had 2 more children. Sons Raymond Dallas Hopkins and Chester Richard Hopkins.
For some reason Find A Grave has connected Chester as a half brother instead of a brother.
