MARTINEK, Richard J., 61, of West Taylor Township, died May 15, 2022, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born July 17, 1960, in Johnstown, the son of John and Sylvia (Smith) Martinek. Preceded in death by his father. Survived by mother; loving wife of 35 years, Kimberly (Taylor) Martinek; daughters, Amy Martinek and boyfriend James Geyer; and Keely Martinek; brother, John (Jamie) Martinek; sister, Sandy (Thad) Schrum; father and mother-in-law, Bobby (Cheryl) Taylor; his boss and best friend, Rusty; and his best friend and workout buddy who was always there for him, Steve "Woobi" Horbal. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was a US Army Veteran where he was a member of the 101st Screaming Eagles and the 82nd Airborne with whom he served in Panama as part of the peace keeping mission. Richard enjoyed hiking, camping and especially spending time with his girls. For numerous years Richard participated, and loved being in, his fantasy football league that he won many times. He was a selfless man who was 100% devoted to his family. He was the smartest and most generous guy we knew. A member of Memorial Baptist Church, 210 Vine Street, Johnstown, PA where visitation will be held 3-7 p.m. Thursday and funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Pastor Carl Irwin. Interment will be held at Benshoff Hill Cemetery with Military Honors by Conemaugh Valley Detachment #287 Marine Corps League. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to the Hillman Cancer Center, 337 Somerset Street, Johnstown, PA 15901 in care of Dr. Michael Voloshin, in memory of Richard.
