Douglas Walter Stowe, 84 of Traverse City died Wednesday, July 27, 2022. He was born on Feb. 25, 1938 in Suttons Bay, the son of Walter Taft and Ellen Elizabeth (Swanson) Stowe.

After high school he joined the Army where he was given an accommodation for excellence in the Military Police. After his Military Service he returned to Suttons Bay worked at Morey's Grocery Store. In the early 1970's he moved to Traverse City to work at Union Market Grocery Store; where he eventually became the owner. After selling the store, he was recruited to work at Meijer where he retired after 30 years of service. He was a member of the American Military League and the American Legion.
He adored his beloved dogs. He loved working on his lawn and enjoyed seeing his family. He loved listening to music and wood working in his garage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ellen; sister, Delores Couturier; second wife, Beatress (Sosinski); grandson, Mitchell Montoya; granddaughter, Candice Nedow; step-daughter, Kris Drake; Step-mother, Mary (Moe) Stowe; step-siblings, Carol (Moe) Livingston, Maryalice (Moe) Herman, Lud Moe and Harold (Jim) Moe.

The family will greet friends starting at 11 a.m., Monday Aug. 8, 2022 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Traverse City, followed by Memorial Services at noon. Graveside Services and military honor will start at 2 p.m. at the Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery, Herman Rd., Suttons Bay followed by luncheon at VI Grill (Eddie's).
