SOUTH BEND - Bonnie G. Powell, 81, of South Bend, formerly of Norfolk, VA, passed to the other side of natural causes at 6:40 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008. Barbara Bond Garner was born November 29, 1927, in Baltimore, MD, to Edwin Francis and Madeline Dickerson (Bond) Garner. Bonnie graduated from Maury High School and attended William and Mary College in Norfolk, VA. She retired from Sibley Machine and Foundry Corporation. She was a former member of the Civil Air Patrol, The Caledonia Kilty Band, The Eastern Star, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was a member of Epworth Memorial United Methodist Church and a Notre Dame football enthusiast. She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-granddaughter, Lilly Elaine Caparell; a nephew, Homer Jefferson Hawks III; and by her beloved cocker spaniel, Skippy. Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Martha (Gus) Caparell; son, Steven G. Powell; grandchildren, Kerri (Sam) Eli, Dylan (Amanda) Caparell and Holly G. Caparell; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha G. (Homer) Hawks; one nephew and one niece. As per her wishes, there will be no visitation and no services. Her ashes will be scattered in Chesapeake Bay. Contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, Harbor Light Hospice or to Epworth Church. Condolences to the family may be e-mailed to www.McGannHay.com.
