Wade Cameron Mitchell
May 24, 1958 - May 25, 2022
Citrus Heights, California - Wade Cameron Mitchell, a financial advisor and a man of many talents, died of cancer on May 25, 2022, at his home in Citrus Heights, CA, with his wife Judith by his side.
A fifth-generation Californian, Wade was born on May 24, 1958, in Chico, CA, to Joyce Johnson Mitchell and Jack Arthur Mitchell. Wade joined a sister, Eugenie ("Genie"), and a brother, Bret. In 1960, his brother Clay was born. In 1962, the family moved to Stockton, CA.
Wade started kindergarten at John Adams School in Stockton, but in 1967, the family moved to Citrus Heights, CA, where Wade attended Coyle Avenue School, Will Rogers Intermediate School, and San Juan High School, from which he graduated in January 1976.
Wade had a gift for figuring out, or knowing, how things worked. He loved cars and all things mechanical. The garage was his domain. Immediately after high school graduation, he started his own machine shop, Mitchell Machine, on Fulton Avenue, in Sacramento. Later, he sold machining equipment throughout northern California for Sunnen Corp. For fun, Wade went four-wheeling in the Sierras with other Toyota Land Cruiser owners and joined the Sacramento Valley Cruisers.
While working for Sunnen, Wade met the former Briget Leonard, whom he married in 1989. They bought a home in El Dorado Hills, where Wade added gardening to his many activities. In 1992, they welcomed a daughter, Brittney Christine, and in 1994, a son, Tucker Ryan Arthur. Eventually, however, Wade and Briget divorced.
Because Wade relished spending time with his family, he changed his career to that of financial advisor -- working first for A.G. Edwards & Sons in Sacramento and El Dorado Hills, then briefly for Wells Fargo, and finally for Stifel, Nicholas & Co. in Roseville.
Wade vacationed in Australia, Mexico and Russia. He took his children on a trip to Costa Rica. He visited Colombia, where he met the former Judith Atencio Montes, whom he married in Hawaii in 2009.
Wade was an involved dad, even if a bit unconventional. He loved taking his children to karate lessons so much that he, too, joined the lessons. When he took salsa lessons, he took his daughter. Wade loved the outdoors, and he enjoyed many off-roading and camping trips with family and friends. After Tucker suffered a brain injury in 2020, Wade was a devoted father throughout Tucker's long hospital stays, always recapping Tucker's progress and reminding him of every accomplishment. Wade helped Tucker stay motivated in his fight to recover.
Wade liked to cook, and he especially loved cooking from his own garden. He delighted in saying, "You can eat anything in my backyard."
There was never a home Wade lived in that he did not give a custom remodel. Every house was always a work in progress. He was continually busy tearing down walls, building decks, re-roofing, changing kitchen cabinets, and replacing doors and windows.
Wade is survived by his wife Judith; daughter Brittney Mitchell Vaughan, Brittney's husband Brian, and their son (Wade's grandson) Mason; Wade's son Tucker, sister Eugenie; brother Bret and Bret's daughter Alexandra ("Sasha"); other relatives, and new and longtime friends. His ashes were scattered near the entrance to the Rubicon trail at Loon Lake, a place Wade loved.
