Jesse is on the 1769 Granville County Tax list with Catherine, his mother Joseph his brother, and James son of Thomas and Sarah Graves In 1784 Jesse, John, and his sister-in-law Sarah C Graves Barnett
Jesse stated in his pension that he migrated to Granville, NC when he was 14 but expect it was later and before 1769 with his mother and brother Thomas Barnett. He joined the Rev War in 1780. His family was in Goochland, Virginia By 1727 when his father buys land.

He was named in the Will of his father the youngest son. Question about the age of his mother Catherine. No one has a proven source for her age most expect 1700-1705. She won't be the last woman to have a child in her very late forties.

In the name of God Amen the Seventh day of October One thousand seven hundred and fifty-five I John Barnett Senr of the County of Goochland being at this present very sick and weak in Body but of a sound and perfect disposing mind and memory thanks be to Almighty God for it considering the certainty of Death and the uncertainty of the time thereof do make Ordain and declare this my last Will and Testament in the manner and form following that is to say first and principally I commend my Soul to the hands of God the Creator that gave it me, and my Body I commit to the Earth to be Buried after a decent Christian like manner, and as to what worldly goods it hath pleased God to bestow upon me I give and dispose in the manner and form following. Item First I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Barnett that part of my Land he now lives on to him and his heirs forever. Item and the other part of my Land with the plantation I now live on I give and devise unto my youngest son Jesse Barnett to him and his heirs forever, the Branch between them to be ye dividing.

Item And remaining part of my Estate both Real and personal I give and bequeath unto the rest of my Children namely Richard Barnett, John Barnett, William Barnett, Joseph Barnett, Edward Barnett, Catherine Whitler, Sarah Barnett, Mary Barnett, and Frances Barnett to them and their heirs forever, to be equally divided between them, at the Death or Marriage of my Wife desiring my Estate may not be appraised.

The item I hereby nominate constitute and appoint my Dear wife Catherine Barnett, my Son John Barnett, and my Son Thomas Barnett, to be my Sole and full Executors of this my Last Will and Testament in Witness whereof I the said John Barnett Senr have hereunto set my hand and Seal. In Presents of Samuel (S) Hix Senr, Henry Whitler, John Farrar.

At a Court held for Goochland County on September the 21st 1756. This writing was proved by the oaths of Samuel Hix Senr and Henry Whitler to be the last will and Testament of John Barnett Senr deceased and was thereupon admitted to record.

This Indenture made this Eighteenth day of October in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty three Between Katharine Barnett, Jessee Barnett, Thomas Barnett and Croshia his wife of the County of Goochland of the one part and William Nuckolls of the same County of the other part Witnesseth that the said Katharine Barnett Jessee Barnett, Thomas Barnett and Crosha his wife for and in consideration of the sum of Eighty Two pounds Current money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said William Nuckolls at and before the Ensealing and delivery of these presentes the Receipt wherof the said Katharine Barnett Jessee Barnett, Thomas Barnett and Crosha his wife doth hereby acknowledge and thereof and every part thereof doth fully and absolutely acquit exonerate and discharge him the said William Nuckolls his Heirs Executors administrators and assigns by these presents Hath given granted Bargained Sold aliened Enfeoffed and confirmed and doth hereby give grant Bargain Sett alien Enfeoff and confirm unto the said William Nucholls his heirs and assigns forever all that Tract or Dividend of land Situate lying and being in the county of Goochland aforesaid containing one hundred and seventy five acres be there more or less which said Tract or parcell of land was conveyed to John Barnett Father to the said Jessee Barnett and Thomas Barnett by John Farrar by a deed baring date the Sixteenth day of December and thousand Seven hundred and Twenty nine which deed being proved and recorded in the County of Goochland doth plainly appear and Bounded on the lines of Strangeman Hutchens John Bibb William Childres and the said William Nuckolls line to the Beginning together with all Houses Edifices Feedings pastures Woodways waters and water courses profits commodities casements Hereditiments and appertinances whatsoever to the plantation Tract or parcell of Land belonging or in any wise appertaining and the Reversion and Reversions Remainder and Remainders of all and singular the premises and all the Estate Right Title Interest property claim and Demand of them the said Katharine Barnett Jessee Barnett Thomas Barnett and Crosha his wife in or to the said lands or any part thereof To have and to hold the said plantation Tract or Dividend of land & all & singular other the premises hereby granted or intended to be hereby granted Bargained and sold with there and every of their appertinances unto the said William Nuckolls his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behalf of him the said William Nuckolls his heirs and assigns for ever and the said Katharine Barnett Jessee Barnett Thomas Barnett and Crosha his wife their heirs and assigns and all and Every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents In witness whereof the said Katharine Barnett Jessee Barnett Thomas Barnett and Crosha his wife to these presents their hands and Seals hath sett the Day and year first above written. On this 9th day of August, A.D. 1832 personally appeared in open Court, before the Worshipful
Justices of the Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions for the County aforesaid, now sitting, Jesse Barnett –
a resident of said County aged 83 years who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath
make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the act passed June 7th, 1832.
That he was born in the County of Goochland State of Virginia, in the year 1749 – that he
removed to this County at the age of 14 years, & has been a citizen thereof ever since. -- that the only
record of his age is the entry in the family Bible, which is preserved in the family – and that shows that
he was born on the 4th day of July 1749 as aforesaid. -- That he entered the Army in the war of the
Revolution as a volunteer at Granville Court House under Captain Richard Harrison in February 1780 –
and about the 10th of that month joined head quarters on the Flat River in Orange County where
General Butler [John Butler] was in command – Joseph Taylor was Colonel & William Gill was
Lieutenant Colonel – that not long before the Battle of Guilford [March 15, 1781] his Regiment joined
General Greene at a place called High Rock – that he was in the Battle at Guilford under the Captain
above named – his other company officers not recollected – that after the Battle he was marched to
Ramsey's Mills, which place Cornwallis had left the morning before his company reached there – that
in the latter part of April General Greene having set out for South Carolina, this affiant with two
a hundred others were ordered to go out with General Greene to South Carolina – that he was placed
under Colonel Read [James Read] a Continental officer, and Captain Cowan [David Cowan] – that
almost immediately after joining this company he was very badly scalded, and after marching 80 miles
he was ordered back to Ramsey's Mills where he received his discharge, but he does not recollect now
from whom – that his tour would have expired on the 10th of May but in consequence of the scalding
received as above mentioned, he lacked five days of serving out the whole time – That in the course of
In the summer he volunteered for three months, & he was ordered to attend & perform duty at a public
tannery at Williamsburg in Granville County; which was then used for the public service, & by consent
of the commandant, one of his Negroes was allowed to perform the duties in his stead. At the end of
three months he received a discharge regularly from the commandant but he has not preserved it.
He hereby relinquishes all claim whatsoever to any pension or annuity except the present -- &
he declares that his name is not on the pension roll of any agency of any State.

be an heir of Jesse Barnett who, she says, served about 7 years in the Revolution under Capt. Hampton
and fought at King's Mountain & Brandywine. She appointed D. H. Wood as her attorney to receive
any thing due her. The petition is dated July 28th 1853.]
