Mr. Darrell Lee Ellis, age 73, of Hanover, Indiana entered this life on September 7, 1948 in Jefferson County, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late John F. and Elizabeth Bruce Ellis. He resided most of his life in Jefferson County and attended Saluda High School. He was inducted into the United States Army on December 3, 1968 in Louisville Kentucky during the Vietnam War. He rose to the rate of Specialist Four serving Battery D, 6th Battalion, 80 Artillery, 7th Infantry Division of the Eighth Army. He was honorably discharged on July 6, 1970 at Fort Lewis, Washington receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea). On September 7, 1967 Darrell was united in marriage to Brenda Carol Burke in Madison, Indiana. This happy union was blessed to raise two children, Angie and Chris. He retired after 42 years of service with the Madison State Hospital where he worked in maintenance and house keeping. He enjoyed camping, watching IU basketball, and caring for his lawn. He was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church, the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion and the Madison VFW Post 1969. Darrell died on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at 6:23 a.m. at his home in Hanover, Indiana.

A LOVING FAMILY
Darrell will be missed by his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Brenda Carol Burke Ellis of Hanover, Indiana; his loving daughter, Angie Stephan and her husband, Tim of Hanover, Indiana; his loving step son, Chris Burke and his wife, Starr of Madison, Indiana; his loving grandsons, Jonah Stephan and his wife, Hayley and Joshua Stephan and his wife, Bethany; his sister, Helen McQueary and her husband, Donald of Clarksville, Indiana; his brother, Edie Hayes and her husband, Jerry of Fortville, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, John F. Ellis, died in 1988, his mother, Elizabeth Bruce Ellis, died 1981, and his brother, Donald Ellis.

GRAVESIDE CEREMONY
Graveside services will be conducted Sunday, August 7, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., by Pastor Mike Johnson at the New Bethel Cemetery near Chelsea, Indiana.
