Matthew was predeceased by his parents, Matthew and Mary O'Brien. Surviving are, his loving wife of 65 years, Catherine (McCabe) O'Brien; daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Christopher DiRenna of Point Pleasant, Theresa and Thomas Thompson of Seattle, Washington, and Maureen and Robert Swigon of Point Pleasant, son Matthew O'Brien and Parissa Taheri of Culver City, California; and he was the proud grandfather of Megan and her husband Justin, Alison and her fiancé Zachary, Matthew and his fiancé Christina, Jennifer and her husband Kevin, Kristen and her fiancé Ricky, Lauren and Darius; his siblings, Elizabeth and her husband Edward McAlister of Barnegat, Charles and his wife, Nancy O'Brien of West Caldwell, and sister Margaret Spagnolia of Lakewood. We can't forget his best friend, his protector and his "Little Man," his Jack Russell, Reilly, who comforted him and brought him so much joy.
The O'Brien family would like to thank Holisticare Hospice for their kindness and compassionate care throughout this entire process. They will be forever grateful.
Visiting will be on Friday, August 12th from 3 to 7pm at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick, New Jersey. A funeral mass will be offered at 10 am on Saturday, August 13th, 2022 at St. Peter's RC Church, 406 Forman Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach. Burial will be at St. Anne's Cemetery, Wall, NJ.
