Billy served in the US Army in Korea during the war. He lived in the Ashland/Richmond area for 50 years and worked 30 years for Safeway. After retirement, he and his wife Catherine "Ernie", moved to Gaston, NC where he served as Town Commissioner, Tax Assessor, and also was elected Mayor, serving from 1997-2005. They later moved to Lake Gaston and enjoyed golfing, fishing, and traveling. They had a second home in Texas for 25 years and enjoyed living retirement life there also.
Billy is survived by his two sons. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren; and his former wife.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA 23005 where a funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Winns Baptist Church, 12320 Winns Church Rd., Glen Allen, VA 23059.
