Billy Wright Melton, age 88, of Richmond, Virginia passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022. Billy was the youngest child of Anson G Melton and Lila Wright Melton. He was the husband of Catherine E. Melton, who predeceased him on April 25, 2022. He was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, A.G., Scott, Betty, and Marietta, and his great-grandson, Nathan.
Billy served in the US Army in Korea during the war. He lived in the Ashland/Richmond area for 50 years and worked 30 years for Safeway. After retirement, he and his wife Catherine "Ernie", moved to Gaston, NC where he served as Town Commissioner, Tax Assessor, and also was elected Mayor, serving from 1997-2005. They later moved to Lake Gaston and enjoyed golfing, fishing, and traveling. They had a second home in Texas for 25 years and enjoyed living retirement life there also.
Billy is survived by his two sons. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren; and his former wife.
