Patricia H. Finney, 92, of Lawrence, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community in Lawrence.

She was born Nov. 1, 1915, in Stella, Mo., to Hugh L. and Delona Clare Haynes. She graduated from Arkansas City Kansas Junior College with an associate degree in business administration.

Mrs. Finney had been a resident of Garden City for 48 years before relocating to Lawrence in 2002. She had worked as the women's page editor for the Garden City Daily Telegram, as assistant to the director of information for Great Plains Wheat Inc., at Garden National Bank, as personal secretary to the president and chairman of the board for Oswalt Industries, as assistant to the director of Area Mental Health Center and retired in 1980 from St. Catherine Hospital's insurance department. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, co-founder and past member of the board of directors of High Plains Village Group Care Home for Boys, past president of the Women's Division of Garden City Chamber of Commerce, past chairwoman of District Republican Women, and a member of Salmagundi Book Club, Belles of St. Catherine Hospital Auxiliary and Finney County Mental Health Association. She enjoyed her community service, traveling, reading and spending time with family.

On Dec. 24, 1941, she married Marshall E. Finney in Arkansas City. He survives. Other survivors include a son, Michael D. Finney of Happy, Texas; a daughter, Marsha E. Morrissey of Lawrence; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial service was at Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence, with the Rev. Peter Luckey officiating. A memorial service in Garden City is planned at a later date, with burial at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
