Burt was born on November 25, 1938 in Clinton, IL to the late Homer and Ruth Alice Burton.
Burt worked at DuPont as a Pipe Fitter for many years after proudly serving his country in the United States Navy. His son, Steven, joined him at DuPont, and that is where they met their dear friend Robert Strickland.
Burt loved to fish and hunt. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved tools and would spend hours in Harbor Freight. He would go home with his tools and invent new gadgets to help make his life easier.
Burt is survived by his partner of 30 years Marilyn Rackley, son Steven Burton (Marie), daughter Heather Cofer (Kursten), his brother Tony Burton, sister Barbara Mayes (Terry), grandchildren Tabitha, Tonya and Tyler Burton, Hunter Burton, and Regan Cofer, great-grandchildren Tucker, Elayna, Sawyer, Kendall and Dawson and his many beloved friends of the V.A., as well as many other extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his son Jamie Burton, brothers Charles, Andy and Jack Burton, sisters Elaine Dalton, Phyllis Burton, and Anna Jean Brock, as well as his beloved childhood dog Poochie.
The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to Jaylyn Morgan, Kay Loflin, Niles Kraus, Catrel Holmes and Denise Killett with Liberty HomeCare & Hospice Services of Wilmington.
There will be a Visitation at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation – Leland Chapel on Friday, August 5, 2022 from 11:00am to 12:00pm, immediately followed by a Memorial Service officiated by Mr. Robert Strickland, Pastoral Care Minister at Northside Baptist Church. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Benjamin Burton Memorial Fund.
