Lt Wojcik was an original member of the famed Darby's Rangers (1st Ranger Battalion). During the campaign in Tunisia, Col Darby personally promoted Wojcik from sergeant to Lt for "extraordinary courage." Wojcik was Killed in Action while running across the beach in the first wave that landed on Sicily. The cause of death was wounds from a land mine. He was 23 years old at the time of his death.
