Born August 30, 1926 in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late G. Hunter and Isabel Bowers. She graduated from Vassar and later received her Master's Degree from Johns Hopkins University. She resided in many different areas of the country including Brigham City UT, Ridgewood NJ, Hamilton NY, Waynesboro VA and most recently in Frederick MD, creating enduring friendships, contributions to her communities, and beautiful homes and gardens in each place she lived. She was an active and passionate participant in many civic and philanthropic endeavors wherever she moved.
Sisis survived by her children, Chrisse Hassett, Robert Butler Jr. and wife Jana, Peter Butler and Shepard Butler; grandchildren, Chrisse New and husband Ryan, Betsy Collings, Peter Hassett, Bayley Butler, Gibson Butler, Shepard Butler and wife Lindsay, Josephine Butler, Emma Bippart-Butler and Mae Bippart-Butler; great-grandchildren, Weston Butler, Clara New, Hank New, Caroline Collings and Josephine Collings. She is also survived by her brother G. Hunter Bowers, Jr. and his wife Eleanor, sister-in-law Georgia Bowers, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Susan Butler and her brother Richard Bowers.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM, on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 31 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. Inurnment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Record Street Home, whose staff took such special care of Sis in her last years, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701.
