Mrs. Gibbs was a homemaker and assisted her husband with farming. She was a 1943 graduate of Sheridan High School, and was an avid Blackhawks fan and adult booster. She and her husband were named Blackhawk "Fans of the Year" in 1991. She was a Boone and Hamilton County 4-H member and supporter for over 50 years.
Mrs. Gibbs was born Feb. 14, 1924, in Hamilton County to Hudson B. and Dorothy Esther George Cherry. She married Donald Lavere Gibbs on April 17, 1943, and he died Nov. 22, 2006.
Surviving are a son, Don M. (Brenda) of Sheridan; a daughter, Sarita E. (Ralph) Koopman of Sheridan; a brother, William "Bill" (Sharon) Cherry of Noblesville; a sister-in-law, Vonda (Lowell) Shelburne of Sheridan; two grandchildren, Sonya F. (David) Gibbs-Willem of Sheridan and Jason M. (Amanda) Gibbs of Lebanon; six great-grandchildren, Amber, C.J., Shyanne, Haiden, Noah and Cecilia; and several nieces and nephews.
A brother, Robert H. Cherry, preceded her in death.
