REV. LEO FITZGERALD
Rev. Leo Fitzgerald, 83, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2018, after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born on March 9, 1935 in Toccoa, GA, the son of the late Harrison Grover and Mary Fitzgerald. Leo married (the late) Willie Doris Bryson Shiflette in 1954. They shared 50 years of marriage and many happy memories together. Leo and "Doris" were foster parents for many of those years, in addition to raising their own family.
After leaving Coble Dairy in his younger years, Leo worked at Orr Lyons Textiles, was a superintendent for Ward Construction and Harper Builders and then became an independent cabinet maker. He was State moderator of the Pentecostal Fire Baptized Holiness Church and served as Pastor at Unity P.F.B. Holiness Church (Anderson), among others.
Leo is survived by his 3 sons Tony R. Shiflette (Linda), Rupert Wade Shiflette (Tammy), Greg Fitzgerald (Lori), and daughter Cathy Smith (Tony); his brother, Chaffin Fitzgerald (Frankie); grandchildren Kristi Barksdale (Donnie), Terri Kelly, Tyler Shiflette (Karen), Michael Smith (Lisa), Nathan Smith (Casey), Angela Compton, Cynthia Owens (Charles), Julie Chinsolo (Gary), Matthew Shiflette (Keyara), Amy Costello (Reuben), John Fitzgerald (Stephanie), and many great-grandchildren.
His beloved wife Doris and seven siblings, Harrison, Calvin, Genell Kesler, Gaythel Hardy, Pauline Behrens, Charles and Fred, preceded him in death.
Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster, SC will be handling arrangements. In keeping with Leo's wishes, there will be no visitation hours. A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 30, 2018, at 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Anderson. The family will be at their respective homes following the service.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation and thanks to the Rehabilitative and Station 4 staff at NHC Anderson for the support and care he received during the time he was there.
