A Sad week for the Roloff Family.. my dad… affectionately known as "papa" to his 10 grandchildren and his 10 great grandkids peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior yesterday evening. Ron was an amazing Husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and inspiration to many. He literally loved people and anyone who ever came in contact with him knows that! His love for Jesus was so evident throughout his entire life and certainly in his final hours. With his "special love of his life (since grade school) his wife of 63 years "Huny" right by his side … many of us were with him reading his favorite Bible Verses—. I would list one but he had so many favorites! Sone of his last words to me were telling me how proud he was of the things I had accomplished… then he quoted….."My Father's house has many rooms; Jesus said.. I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. (John 14:2-3)".

Ronald "Ron" James Roloff was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, uncle and friend to many throughout his incredibly full 84 years on this Earth. Ron passed away on Sunday, July 31st, 2022 in Surprise, Arizona, surrounded by his loving wife and family, in person and also in spirit from all across the country.

Ron, known fondly as "Papa" to his 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and many friends he brought in as family, loved others deeply. Ron's "special love of his life" and wife of 63 years, Peggy Roloff, was with him in Surprise as they had recently begun a new adventure by moving to enjoy more sunshine and warmer weather - something Ron had looked forward to for quite some time given his love of soaking up the sun. In the brief months Ron and Peggy had been in Surprise together, Ron formed friendships and connections with many people, as was his natural presence in any new place he entered.

Born in San Francisco, California on June 21, 1938, Ron spent his childhood days in The City and knew the neighborhoods well from an early age through his time on a paper route starting at 9 years old. He loved to tell stories about his early days growing up in San Francisco and was proud of his experiences as a young person navigating joyful as well as challenging experiences as a child. He was a third generation San Franscisco resident. After graduating from Lincoln High School, Ron proudly served in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) for four years and was a skilled helicopter mechanic and rifleman and friend to those he served with. Amidst this same time, Ron fell in love and married the love of his life, Peggy, and began the grand adventure of building a family and a life together. Ron and Peggy raised four children; Ruth, Josh, Matt and Sam and enjoyed many family pets and farm animals, inviting many strangers that soon became friends and family into their homes over the years and taking trips together in the VW bus as family. As their children grew and built their own families, Ron and Peggy enjoyed living near their children and grandchildren in California and Oregon while still embracing their shared zest for adventure and travel. Ron enjoyed serving alongside Peggy in places like World Impact in LA and also in Thailand working with orphanages. He had the gift of hospitality and their home was always open.

Over his lifetime, Ron used his many skills and interests in diverse ways — from demanding work as a journeyman carpenter, to driving the big rigs all around San Francsico, to supporting community members in getting to their behavioral health appointments, to connecting with every Veteran he met and celebrating their proud service to their shared country, to leading and hosting countless Bible studies with Peggy in their home, to building gardens and managing farmland from scratch, to partnering with formerly incarcerated individuals through a support group aimed at reducing recidivism, to constantly searching for his next book to read (and then recommend to everyone), to creative projects with his grandkids, to long chats over coffee with friends and family in his beloved backyard, and much much more. Ron was passionate about his political and social beliefs and enjoyed a "good debate" with anyone who was interested. He wasn't afraid to voice what he believed and yet was also tender and loving towards others, regardless of differing viewpoints.

Ron truly embraced life and lived each moment to the fullest; he regularly expressed gratitude for each day he was given and reminded others that we have much to be grateful for.

Ron was a man of many passions and interests — with a common thread always weaving through them all: Ron believed in Jesus and his Christian faith was a center point to everything he did. Ron sought to love people for who they are, not what they could do for him or how they were perceived by others. One of Ron's many favorite Bible verses captures well the way in which he sought to live a life of hope and faith:

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." -Romans 15:13

Ron's huge smile, boisterous laugh, extra tight hugs and heart of service, passion and determination, will be missed by all who knew him.

Ron is survived by his loving wife and partner of 63 years, Peggy. Ron is survived by his daughter Ruth Burton, son Matt Roloff, and son Sam Roloff and their beloved partners and families, all of whom he loved dearly. Ron looked forward to finally being reunited in heaven with his cherished son Josh. Ron is also predeceased by both of his parents, his twin sister Roxie Walters and his brother David Roloff. Ron leaves behind a legacy of love and tenacity to his sister Natalia Ruben, 10 grandchildren: Rachel, Sarah, Hannah, Jeremy, Zachary, Molly, Jacob, Max, Henry and Amelia as well as his 10 great-grandchildren: Ember, Jackson, Torbjørn, Henrik, Lilah, Bode, Radley, Mateo, Josiah, and Inga. Countless friends, neighbors, coworkers, fellow volunteers and community members who will deeply miss him and his presence in their lives.

In lieu of flowers and in the spirit of Ron's values of service and love for others, the family kindly requests that any donations please be made in Ron's name to:
