PAULA B. CHEEK, PH.D., 64, of SPRING LAKE, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Chicago, Ill., Dr. Cheek had lived in New York City, N.Y., before moving to Spring Lake 12 years ago. She was a medical technologist at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, where she taught Immunology before retiring. She earned her Doctorate in Medical Physiology from the University of Illinois. Dr. Cheek had also done Medical Research at Columbia University. She was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and Kappa Gamma Phi. She also taught at Chicago Public College. Paula was a member of the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church Choir in Asbury Park, and a member of the Catholic Slavic Ladies League in Chicago, Ill.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ann and Joseph Copack; and her brother, Capt. Joseph Copack. She is survived by her beloved husband, James A. Cheek of Spring Lake; a son, Joseph L. Cheek of Brussels, Belgium; a sister, Marian Orth of Western Springs, Ill.,; and eight nieces and nephews.

Visiting will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the O'Brien Funeral Home, Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit RC Church, 705 2nd Ave., Asbury Park, NJ 07712. Burial will follow at St. Catharine's Cemetery, Sea Girt.
