GOSPORT — Virgil R. Arnold, 97, of Gosport, died Sunday at Morgan Hospital and Medical Center.

He was born in Morgan County to Robert and Cora (Abrams) Arnold.

He married Edna Pearl Crawley.

He was retired from farming. He farmed in Owen County for most of his life.

Survivors include two sons, Ernie G. Arnold (Susie), of Gosport, and Robert Arnold, of Greenwood; a daughter, Vyiatta Jane Bailey (Bill), of Martinsville; daughter-in-law Jane Arnold, of Gosport; a nephew he raised as a son, Everette Arnold; fifteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son (Venice Arnold), daughter (Violet Arnold), four sisters and two brothers.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Chandler-Whitaker Funeral Home in Gosport with Bro. Joe Mitchell officiating. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Mannan Cemetery.
