Melanie Lane Wells, 37, died Wednesday at Liberty Regional Medical Center after a long illness. A native of Fort Stewart, she lived in Hinesville, GA her entire life. She was a 1996 graduate of Bradwell Institute and worked at Cherokee Rose Country Club. In 2011, Melanie became a published author with her novel, Secrets of Sandy Cove.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dennis Lane, and maternal grandfather, William Durrence. Survivors include her children, Duane R. Wells and Chelsea Wells Davis (William) of Hinesville; mother, Sharon Durrence of Hinesville; maternal grandmother, Sara Jane Eskew of Hinesville; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lane of Tennessee; three sisters, Christina Brzezicki of Delaware, Melissa McCallar (Greg) of Hinesville, and Kalyn Bornemann (Justin) of Ft. Stewart; her grandson, Denver Davis of Hinesville; and several nieces and nephews

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Hinesville First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dale Thornton officiating. The family will receive visitors for one hour prior to the service, from 5-6pm at the church. Memorials may be made to Hinesville First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 203 North Main Street, Hinesville, Ga 31313. Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
