Born, June 8, 1936, in Haywood County, Betty was the daughter of the late Odell Cagle and Effie Hunter Cagle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Richard Byrd; son, Phillip Byrd; brother, Billy Cagle; sisters, Anna Dee Ball, Wilma Rathbone, Hilda Nichols, and Mary Jane Cagle; and great granddaughter, Chrissy. Betty loved to garden and crochet. She has crocheted toboggans for Samaritan's Purse for may years. She was a wonderful cook and made the best biscuits and mud pies ever. Betty worked numerous places on Main Street in Waynesville. She raised 4 amazing sons and was loved dearly by her family.
Left to cherish Betty's memory are her sons, Gary (Wanda), Charles (Tasha), Kenneth (Heather); sisters, Eva Nell Chandler (John), Dorothy Parton, and Linda Best; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; along with numerous extended family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Hazelwood Baptist Church with the Reverend Tim Lolley officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm prior to the service. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Franks, Mark Byrd, Logan Byrd, Ricky Mehaffey III, Alex Cogdill, and Waylon Hawes.
