Gene Raymond Kirk "Ray," 79, of Frederica, DE, died on July 24, 2022 at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, MD.
Gene was born on April 4, 1943, in Washington, DC to the late Jean Gloria (Shank) and Ladson Elmore Kirk, Sr.
Gene was a self-employed antique dealer, owning and operating Olde Glory Days in Gumboro, DE. He was the former owner of Calvert County Furniture in Prince Frederick, MD. He was a member of the crime watch team for the town of Frederica, DE. As a youngster he was the lead guitarist in the band (along with his brother "Bub") "The Down Beats," and played all over MD, VA and NC. He had a passion for drag racing and corvettes and owned multiple throughout his life. Gene was a loving, kind hearted man who never met a stranger that soon didn't become a friend. He was the kind of guy you felt you knew forever and was fond of all who was lucky enough to know him. The love he had for his daughter and grandchildren were beyond measure, and was made evident everyday of his life. Gene was extremely fun and witty and no conversation went without laughter. He was also a lover of animals.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley A. Kirk, brother, Fred D. Kirk, nephew, Gary F. Kirk, and brother in-law, Elmer Hamilton.
He is survived by his daughter, Shelly (Allan) Scott, granddaughter, Brandy (Chris) McGuigan, three great-grandchildren; Carson, Emily, and Presley McGuigan, brother, Ladson "Bub" (Linda) Kirk, sister, Rosemarie "Sis" Hamilton and sister in-law, Catherine "Joyce" Kirk.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, August 5, 2022 from 10:00AM until time of service at 12:00PM, at Raymond Funeral Service, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Gene's name to Tri-County Animal Shelter, 6707 Animal Shelter Road, Hughesville, MD 20637 or Dementia Society of America, P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
