Shirley Fisher was born January 30, 1941, in Bunkie Louisiana! Her father Amos Ortego was a cobbler and they lived above his shoe shop in Bunkie while her mother Mabel Ortego owned a restaurant In Bunkie. When Shirley was born, she only weighed 3 pounds and was so small she slept in a shoebox. She learned to play the French horn in high school and upon graduation went to cosmetology school and then opened her own beauty shop. Shirley was the ultimate description of a loving mother! She loved her kids so much that it led her into the nursery business where she worked for many childcare services over the years of her married life. That also carried over to her love for her church family as she taught the five-year-old Sunday school class at The Pentecostals of Alexandria! She was also involved in the choir at POA and served in many other volunteer ministries through the years, including the peanut brittle of course. It was through a chance meeting with Clara Clark that she brought her entire family to POA in the fall of 1974, and they have been faithful members since then.

Her parents, Amos and Mabel Ortego; her loving husband of 50 years, Manuel T. Fisher; and one sister, Mary Jannell Thurston precede her in death.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters: Tammy (Richard) Reeves of Alexandria, Rebecca (Jimmy) Savoy of Woodworth, and Kim (Ron) Stamper of Lecompte; five grandchildren: Brent Reeves, Marcus Reeves, Jamie (Reena) Savoy, Blake (Christina) Teears and Lauren Teears; seven great grandchildren; special niece, Sondra Adams; along with a host of family and friends.
