James Shaw "Jimmy" Jr., was born October 12, 1963, to the marriage of James Wesley Shaw, Sr. and Clementine Odessa Shaw (née 𝑩𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆) in Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. He was their baby boy. If you had the honor or privilege to meet Jim, you understand what a loss this is for his family, friends, mentees, and co-workers.

Jim was a proud graduate of East Forsyth High School and Livingstone College. He was a leader on and off the football field. He pledged Omega Psi Phi at Livingstone College and forged many lifelong friendships.

Jim began his career after college in the insurance industry. This is where he would spend 20 years of his life. He worked on the corporate side and as an entrepreneur. He was a team leader and mentor at American Express for the last 8 years. However, his passion was youth sports. In 2002, Jim founded the Georgia Tarheels youth sports organization. Through Georgia Tarheels, Jim was able to mentor and shape the lives of many young people. He was a father figure to many youngsters in the Metro Atlanta area. After the death of his father, he took over Jim Shaw ACE academy in Winston-Salem, NC, where he continued to be a pillar in the community.

Jim was a safe haven for many and created an environment for everyone to feel welcome and supported. There are numerous testimonies of his fairness and ability to bring the best out of people. He handled each person with delicate care and concern such that everyone walked away feeling empowered to tackle anything. He did all this and never expected anything in return.

Through his business, Georgia Tarheels, he met and married the love of his life, Shelia Ray-Shaw. He always said, "I loved her at hello." The most important thing in life for Jim was family. Jim and Shelia created the most beautiful, blended family without distinction, where all were their children. He loved and was proud of his children and grandchildren.
