DEATH OF H. C. COPELAND
Saturday evening a little before 4 o'clock Henry C. Copeland, who has been lying at the point of death for the last six weeks, died at his home in the west part of the city. The funeral took place this afternoon at the A.M.E. church on New York street. It was attended by one of the largest crowds that has been present at a funeral from that church for many days. After the services the interment took place at Oak Hill cemetery
H. C. Copeland was one of the best known colored men in the city. He has lived here for the last twenty five years and whenever he could get work to do, was busy at his trade as carpenter. He was an industrious man, and universally respected by all who knew him. During the war he served in the union army and since its close has been active in Grand Army circles, having been commander of Sam Walker post in this city. His last sickness lasted about six weeks, but he had not been able to do a great deal for the last two years on account of ill health. Paralysis followed by consumption caused his death. He leaves a wife and family of small children.
