J M Snyder died at his home on the Steele county farm last Sunday morning after quite a long illness. He was 59 [sic] years old and leaves in addition to his widow, nine boys and two girls, all of whom are living. The deceased had been sick all winter from a general complication and some three or four weeks ago pleurisy set in and an operation had to be performed. Since then he has been steadily growing weaker and passed away as stated. The funeral occurred at the farm home on Tuesday afternoon, a service being held at the house and the remains being brought to the cemetery at this place where another short service was held before they were consigned to their last resting place. Rev. Oscar D. Purinton was the officiating clergyman.

Joseph M. Snyder died at his home in Greenview, Steele Co., on last Sunday, after a long and painful illness. He was born in Bates county, Missouri, April 24, 1825 [sic]. Emigrating to Dakota in 1882, he homesteaded a piece of land in Riverside township, Steele county, where he broke up the virgin soil with three yoke of oxen. His was the spirit of the pioneer, for when hardship came he never complained. After this he tried living in Minnesota and one year in Canada, but North Dakota was the place for him.
He bore his pain heroically and when he saw that his time to depart had come he was satisfied.
He was a kind, loving and tender husband and father. He leaves a wife, nine sons and two daughters to mourn his loss. Interment was made in the Cooperstown cemetery, June 9, Rev. O. D. Purinton officiating.
