Anna was a daughter of John Schumacher (1827-1883) and Sophia Wolfenberg (1842–1869). She married Andrew Gies (1860-1937) on December 11, 1888, in Berlin (now Kitchener), Ontario. Andrew was a son of Nicholaus Gies and Anna Eva Eisenbach.
The Elmira Signet newspaper reported the death of Anna Gies:
Last Monday evening the sad news was received here that the wife of Mr. Andrew Gies had died at Hamilton, Ohio, and that the corpse was on its way to Conestoga for interment. The deceased lady was the daughter of Mrs. Schumacher, of Conestoga....The funeral took place at Conestoga the following day. The bereaved husband is a son of Mr. Gies, of Woolwich township.
