Dr. George Harry Harhigh (83) of Harrisburg died peacefully of natural causes on December 21 at Community Osteopathic Hospital. Born in Frackville, George was the son of Harry Harhigh and Helen (Sachar) Harhigh. He was the youngest of four children, and he adored his brothers John and Harry and his sister Ann. George grew up in Frackville and followed in the footsteps of his elder siblings to graduate as valedictorian from Frackville High School. After teaching school briefly, he attended medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. George practiced family medicine for over 42 years in Camp Hill, caring for multiple generations of central Pennsylvania families with compassion and humor. George took great pride in his Ukrainian heritage, had a passion for classical music, enjoyed playing golf, wrote poetry and decorated pysanky (Ukrainian eggs), and was a lifelong, die-hard Penn State football fan and dog lover. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years Sherry; children Jennifer and husband Colin, Kristin, Pamela, Angela and husband Robert, Brent and wife Dixie, Meghan, and Eric. He was a proud grandfather to Helen, Ava, Victor, Micah, Josiah, Emilia, Saunee, Zoee, Ailis and Emmett. He also is survived by his brother Harry Harhigh of New Hope, sister-in-law Mary Harhigh of Frackville, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John, his sister Ann Majike and brother-in-law Joe Majike, and sister-in-law Betty Lou Harhigh. In light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and in honor of George's vocation as a medical provider, a private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
