Margaret Ann (Peg) Wright of Doylestown, PA passed away peacefully on July 21, 2022 at 91 years of age. She is survived by her brother John McPherson and her eight children from her previous marriage to R. Donald Wright; Robert Wright (Valerie), Christopher Wright (Frances), David Wright, Margaret Connor (James), Theresa Marie, Timothy Wright (Nancy), Mary Beth Lopresti (John), and Kathleen Jack (William). She was predeceased by her parents Donald and Marguerite McPherson, her sister Dorothy McPherson, and her brothers, Donald and Thomas McPherson. Peg had 25 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Peg was born on April 22, 1931 in Norristown, PA where she spent her early years. In the early 1940's her family moved to Syracuse, NY to join her father who had moved there to work for Carrier Air Conditioning. Peg became the oldest child in her family since a first child, Donald, had died at only 4 months old in 1930. She distinguished herself as an excellent student, becoming valedictorian at the Convent School in Syracuse when she graduated in 1949. She attended LeMoyne College and received a B.A. degree in English in 1953. She and R. Donald Wright married in December 1953. Her classroom teaching career was cut short with the arrival of her first child in 1954, with seven more to follow over the next 11 years. Starting out in the Haddonfield/Voorhees area of NJ, the family moved to Medford Lakes, NJ in 1968. Peg was devoted to her family and assumed whatever responsibility would propel them forward in life. Her household management and cooking skills were a match for the outrageous demands of her 10 member family, and again when she welcomed her aunt and two cousins to share her home, swelling the household to 13. Her example of honesty, loyalty, patience, kindness, humility, and generosity quietly guided her children toward maturity despite the best efforts of some to resist. As a lifelong practicing Catholic, the fruit of her devotion to Christ was evident in her personal character and loving kindness towards others.
Peg not only managed her home but actively supported the family's business ventures. Her son Bob benefited the most as she played an important role in the success of his real estate appraisal business for a period of close to 25 years, retiring in 2013 at age 82. Her skills at editing long documents were legendary and she was greatly missed upon her departure.
In 1956 Peg's parents started a family tradition of vacationing in Brigantine, N.J. for the first two weeks of August each year. Her joy at drawing us all together continued until her last reunion week in 2021. Her children witnessed having six generations of family together over the years, from her grandparents and great uncles and aunts to ultimately her own great grandchildren. This resistance to the scattering effects of evolving cultural and economic forces forged strong bonds of love within our family. Peg's strong desire to see her children love one another was fulfilled and celebrated each year.
Peg regularly expressed her appreciation for the 7 years she lived in the Pine Run Retirement Community in Doylestown, just one block from her daughter, Kathleen, and her family. "This is the nicest place I have ever lived and the miracle is that I can afford it." Her grandchildren Will and Meredith Jack were able to visit her on their own and she loved it. Her family believes that Pine Run not only improved the quality of her life and relationships but also extended her ability to live independently. Despite her many bone surgeries over the years, Peg was known for her cheerful loving demeanor which drew family and friends to her side. Trusting in Christ, Peg humbly and resolutely faced the last stage of her life. Her children say "She showed us how to live and now she has showed us how to die. We thank God for you Mom."
