Born Sept. 4, 1920, in Houghton, he was the son of Louis and Emma Hesse Kruse. On Jan. 12, 1943, he married Barbara M. Dingman in St. Paul. She died March 11, 2006.
Mr. Kruse retired in 1982 from Kruse Implement in Houghton, which he owned and operated with his father, brother and sons for 38 years. He was a 1938 graduate of St. John's School in Houghton. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Houghton and the Houghton Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, bird watching and pets.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Kruse and Art Kruse, both of Houghton; five daughters, Mary Jean McGuire of Oquawka, Ill., Jeanette Steffensmeier of St. Paul, Bernadine Madsen of Indianola, Anita Myers of St. Paul and Elizabeth Carlson of Iowa City; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one great-grandson and one brother.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory in West Point, where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Knights of Columbus will recite a rosary at 3 p.m. A wake service will be at 7 p.m.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Kruse will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church in Houghton with the Rev. Gary Beckman officiating.
