Penny is survived by her husband of 40 years, Robert Matthews; her three children, Jason (Shelly) Matthews, Tisha (Jake) Van Horn and Heather Matthews (fiance, Micah Johnson); her mother, Elizabeth Ann Purcell and her grandchildren, Rylee, Ayden, Sydnee Matthews and Elliot Van Horn.
She was preceded in death by her father, William "Bill" Purcell.
Penny was a graduate of Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Mich. She was a dedicated and award-winning nurse beginning in Drumheller, Alberta, Canada and completing her career at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, as assistant manager of the Comprehensive Care Unit. As a longstanding member of the Knoxville Seventh-day Adventist Church in Peoria, Penny will be remembered for her gift of music and her love for all of God's creatures.
Visitation is set for 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, at East Lawn Funeral Home of Bloomington. Services under the direction of Pastor Larry Clonch, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at East Lawn Funeral Home of Bloomington.
Memorials in her honor can go to the Community Cancer Center Foundation, Normal or the American Cancer Society.
