DOLA B. WHALEY, 87, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2012, in Duncan, Oklahoma.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 6, 2012, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home, Marlow, Oklahoma, with Bro. Mike Peercy and Bro. Jerry Bradley officiating. Burial will be in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Dola was born Saturday, April 25, 1925, in Arthur, Oklahoma, to Homer Clark and Maggie (Cox) Palmer. Dola attended school at Woodlawn and in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She had lived in the Duncan area for over 60 years. On August 25, 1941, Dola married John H. Whaley in Marlow. He preceded her in death on January 1, 1999.
Dola was a homemaker and loved to spend time with her family. She was affectionately known as Granny B by her grandchildren, and by her nieces and nephews as Aunt B. Dola enjoyed sewing, reading, playing cards and drawing. Playing with her dog, Rexie, brought great joy to Dola. She also enjoyed playing her harmonica and whistling. Dola was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Duncan.
Survivors include two sons, John H. Whaley, Jr. and wife June of Mesquite, Texas, and Geary Whaley and wife Suzan of Oklahoma City; a daughter, Katherine McAdoo of Duncan;
grandchildren, Robert Whaley of Duncan, Jennifer Witt of Duncan, and Jenae Johnson and husband Brad of Rowlett, Texas; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Erik, Kayla, Rachel, Sara, Ryan, Megean, Brayden and Loren; several great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Mattie Whaley, Effie Palmer, Lorene Palmer, Billie June Whaley, Christine Massey, Maxine Branam and Alice Palmer.
Dola was also preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Tony Sanders; a son-in-law, Steve McAdoo; a sister, May (Palmer) Burkleo; and six brothers, Albert, Rollie, Cedric, Alonzo, Edward and Bill Palmer.
Pallbearers will be David Palmer, Royce Whaley, Kim Shirley, Bennie Whaley, Tony Carnavale, and James Whaley.
