Joy was born on December 30,1934, in Rotan, Texas to the late Dewitt Jackson and Ethel Cordelia (Wells) Riherd. She married Robert (Bobby) F. Pepper on June 11, 1961, in Dublin. They made their home in Big Lake where she taught elementary school. Robert preceded her in death on April 20, 1968.
She also taught elementary school at Santo and Palo Pinto ISDs and worked at the Dick Smith Library on the Tarleton Campus for seven years. She lived most of her life in Erath County. She was a member of the Green's Creek United Methodist Church.
Her second marriage was to Ernest L. Boening on June 12, 1987, in Stephenville, he preceded her in death on April 6, 2003. Her third marriage was to Plesant Melvin Calhoun on May 2, 2009, in Dublin, who preceded her in death on October 31,2016.
Joy is survived by her children, Bobbie and her husband Keith Nichols of Dublin, Steven and wife Kristy Pepper of Proctor, Ernest and wife Cheri Boening of Stephenville, Beth and husband Lannes Callison of DeLeon, and Melody and husband Rod Reed of Jourdanton, Tx.
She was loved by many and will be missed.
