Joel was born on August 30, 1962, in Newton, Iowa, the son of Paul and Roma (Talbot) Harper. Family was his first priority and his grandkids meant the world to him. He was proud to have worked as a truck driver with the CB handle "The Real Deal Road Kill 670." He loved being out on the road with his motorcycle. Joel was an amazing cook.
Surviving are his wife, Kathy; children, Joel Potter, Jed Harper, and Chasity (Fred) Csader; grandchildren, Jordan, Caydin, Nathan, Cole, Kaylee, Haley, Leeann, Mason; mother, Roma; siblings, Paulette, Rick, Doug, Jeff, Becky, Tim, and Danny; and nieces and nephews.
Joel was preceded in death by his dad, Paul; grandson, Tanner Potter; nieces, Tiffany Potter and Brittnay Murray; brother-in-law, Dwayne Potter; and sister-in-law, Brenda Murray.
