CHARLES A. BOWEN, 93, PASSES AWAY FRIDAY
Charles Asa Bowen, 93, died at his home in La Plata Friday morning. He had been in ill health for several months.
Born July 19, 1866 in Knox County, he was the son of the late Francis and Rachel (Wilson) Bowen. In 1890 he was married to Ida Hodges and to this marriage six daughters were born.
Surviving are his daughters, Mrs. Arl (Nettie) Easley of La Plata, Mrs. John (Letha) Hunter of La Plata, Miss Goldie Bowen of the home, Mrs. Jett (Floy) Moncrief of La Plata, Mrs. George (Lola) Long of Atlanta, and Mrs. Phil (Jo) Horan of Chillicothe; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 27, 1958.
Mr. Bowen was the last member of a family of eight. He was a retired farmer and had lived in La Plata for the past 15 years. Before moving to La Plata, he lived on a farm eight miles east of La Plata. He was a member of the Hazel Dell Christian Church.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the La Plata Christian Church. Burial was in the La Plata Cemetery under the direction of the Christie Funeral Home in La Plata.
Bearers were the grandsons, Merle Easley, Owen Long, Leland Easley, Cleo Hunter, Francis Moncrief and Donald Long.
