2925 Private A Baker (not Barker as on the cemetery memorial), 2nd Battalion the Norfolk Regiment. The battalion deployed to South Africa for the Second Anglo Boer War, sailing on the Assaye on 4 Jan 1900, and arrived at the Cape on the 23 Jan 1900. Along with the 2nd Lincolnshire, 1st King's Own Scottish Borderers, and 2nd Hampshire, they formed the 14th Brigade under Brigadier General Chermside. They took part in the advance from Modder River to Bloemfontein. They fought at the battle of Karee Siding on 29 Mar 1900 during the advance to Johannesburg. Brandfort was occupied on 3 May 1900, Smalldeel on the 6 May 1900, Kroonstad on the 12 May 1900. Private Baker died of disease at Bloemfontein on 14 May 1900.
