Once moving to Mobile he taught a Bible study for his neighbors.
Herb loved his niece and nephews as if they were his own children. He was always there to meet any need, offer advice and he loved them unconditionally; this was extended to his great nephews and niece. He was affectionately known as "Unca Bubba."
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, his nephew, Wesley Powell, and his brother-in-law Leonard Powell. He is survived by his sisters, Mickie Powell, Erin Plunkett (Terry), niece, Wendy Powell, nephews, Lee Plunkett (Danielle), Chris Plunkett (Jennifer), Kevin Plunkett (Lauren) and his great niece, nephews, and cousins.
