Thomas J. Payton, Sr. departed this life on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. He was born August 3, 1938, in Bogalusa, Louisiana to AJ Payton and Mattie Pittman Payton. He was the second child and first son of five children. He accepted Christ at an early age.

He graduated from 33rd Avenue High School and Prentiss Institute in Gulfport, Mississippi. He was later drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country. Upon his return, he attended and graduated from Alcorn A & M.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Callie M. Payton, and two sisters, Loretta Flowers and Arthelda Wash.

He's survived by two siblings, Jimmie O. Payton, Sr. (Betty) and Jannell Faulkner (Robert). He also leaves to cherish his memories, two sons, Thomas J. Payton, Jr. (Sontriell) and Derrick A. Payton (Neloise), his three grandchildren, Kyndall Payton, Shamaz Payton and Kyle Payton, an aunt, Arlene Washington, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 21,2022 at Empowerment Ministries Christian Center: 11924 Klein Rd, Gulfport, MS 39503:
Visitation 10:30 am
Service 11:30 am

Interment 1:30 pm at National VA Cemetery: 400 Veterans Ave, Biloxi, Mississippi.
