Betty McElhannon Hale, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 18th, 2022 at her lifetime home of Dacula, Georgia after 89 years and a wonderful life.
Betty looked forward to reunion with her loving husband of 59 years, Ralph Griffin "RG" Hale, Jr., former Dacula city councilman who preceded her in death in 2008; also preceding her in death were parents Albert Guy and Mary "Lemma" Daniel McElhannon of Dacula, GA; brothers James Mell McElhannon, Albert Guy "AG" McElhannon Jr., sister Mary McElhannon Dalton and her husband William T. Dalton of Dacula, GA, brother-in-law William "Mahlon" Burson Jr. of Lawrenceville, GA, brother-in-law George Mitchell of Dacula, GA, brother-in-law Robert Malcom Hale and his wife Charlene Dee Weaver Hale of Monroe, GA, and brother-in-law James "Jimmy" Thomas Hale of Monroe, GA.
She is survived by her children: Dennis Michael Hale of Between, GA, Joan Hale McMillian and her husband Morris Barrett McMillian of Dacula, GA, Albert Griffin "Griff" Hale of Dacula, GA; sisters Mavis McElhannon Burson of Lawrenceville, GA and Carnethy McElhannon Mitchell, sister-in-law Mary "Adeline" Malcolm Hale; grandchildren Zackry Morris McMillian, his wife Alicia McMillian and son Barrett McMillian of Cumming, GA; Amanda McMillian Edmondson, her husband Nathan Allen Edmondson and children Charlie Morris Edmondson and Claire Elizabeth Edmondson of Dahlonega, GA; and Dr. Ralph Griffin "Rusty" Hale III and his wife Tabitha Robbins of Gainesville, GA.
Betty graduated from Dacula High School in the class of 1950 with many life-long friends, but devoted her life to her husband and children. She worked for Gwinnett County Public Schools from 1973-1993 primarily at Dacula Elementary as a library clerk encouraging a love of reading in children. Upon retirement she continued serving her community on the Gwinnett County grand jury and many years on the City of Dacula Planning Commission. She cared deeply for her hometown of Dacula and her family is very proud of her dedication to community service as well as advocacy, leading a letter-writing campaign among other efforts to influence the allocation of a library in the City of Dacula.
Betty shared many wonderful travels with her husband and great friends. She loved books and reading as well as leading and participating in Bible studies with friends and family. Her greatest work was however done individually, as her charm and ability to both speak and truly listen enabled her to council and encourage countless friends over the years.
Betty spent her final years at home pouring love into her children, grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She woke daily with a positive attitude, a smile and excitement, praising the Lord out-loud and thanking Him for the day that would follow usually including: avid bird watching, defending birds from squirrels, enjoying her flowers, and providing wise council to whomever the Lord sent her way. Her life was a legacy of simply loving people.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held for all to memorialize and give thanks for her wonderful life and homecoming; officiated by Marvin Westbrook on August 13th at 2:00PM at Wages & Sons Funeral Home located at 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy Lawrenceville, Georgia. WWW.WAGESANDSONS.COM / 770-277-4550
