Charlene Mae Powell ("Char"), 85, of Clayton, OH, passed away on July 17, 2022. Char was born in Dayton, OH, on September 6, 1936, to Rose and Carl Schulte. Char is survived by her children Carl J. (Donna) Powell, of Englewood, OH; Leslie T. (Carolyn) Powell, of Piqua, OH; Craig M. Powell, of Scotland, MD; Christopher A. (Leigh) Powell, of Englewood, OH, Amanda (Jim Fitzgibbons) Powell, of Sun City, AZ, and Stephen (Carolina) Powell, of Indio, CA, her sister Mary (Kenny) Henning, of Englewood, OH, and her sister-in-law Barb Schulte, of Englewood, OH. Ten grandchildren also survive Charlene: Carly, Emily, Jonah (Natalie), Jenna (Brett), Chandler, Daniel, Trever, Savannah, Leslie, and Stephen, Jr. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Charlene was predeceased by Carl L. Schulte (Father), Rose L. Schulte (Mother), Carl T. Schulte (Brother), and her former spouse of 25 years, Leslie K. Powell.

Char attended Fairview High School graduating in 1954, and received an optical license in 1983. She was a full-time mother and worked part-time at White House Optical. In 1982 she worked for Optical Fashions for a few years and then got a CDL and went to work as a bus driver for the Dayton City Schools in 1983 until her retirement in 2003. She had a dynamic personality and a passion for music. Char was an amateur pianist and music teacher. It tickled Char to give piano lessons to a young girl who later received a scholarship at Wright State University. Char formed a musical group called "The Charmers." She loved playing the piano and enjoyed entertaining at nursing homes and church events and playing for family and friends. She especially enjoyed playing happy birthday to her children. Char was a proud member of Precious Blood Church and a known card shark at the Heck Center in Englewood, OH.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to her faithful caregivers: Christine and Lilly – thank you for your tender and loving care of our mother, Char.

There will be a visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Kindred Funeral Home located at 400 Union Blvd., Englewood, OH 45322. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022 at 10:30 am at Precious Blood Catholic Church located at 4961 Salem Avenue, Dayton, OH 45416, followed by an entombment at Woodland Park Cemetery and Arboretum, located at 118 Woodland Avenue, Dayton, OH 45409.
