Chris was born on Feb. 11, 1928. She was raised on the farm the family homesteaded near Stephen, MN. She was one of five children born to Nels & Selma (Lundin) Jorgensen.
The farm was truly rural with no electricity until after she graduated from high school, nor did it ever have running water other than the kitchen pump. She frequently reminisced about the not-to-be-missed long frigid Minnesota winters, thick quilts, reading, doing homework by oil lamp, and their team of work horses pulling their wagon fitted with sled skis that her father drove to Stephen every few weeks to get the surrounding farmers their supplies. She attended a one-room school (Happy Corner) near the farm and graduated from Stephen High School in 1945. After graduation, she joined the WWII Cadet Nurse Corps Program and took her training at Deaconess Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Following graduation, as a Registered Nurse (RN) in 1948, she worked in the Deaconess Hospital Obstetrics Ward ultimately becoming the Head Nurse before moving to Spokane in 1963. She remembers the days of having to wear a pristine white uniform and having to starch her nurse's hat over a kitchen pot. In Spokane, Chris worked as an Office Nurse for Drs. Perry, Finney, and Toribara before retiring in 1988.
In Grand Forks, she met her future husband, Donald, who was recently discharged from the US Navy following WWII. He was the love of her life. They were married on Oct. 19, 1947, at the St. Petri Lutheran Church in rural Stephen, MN. The two were married for nearly 72 years until Don's passing in 2019. Following her husband's death, she moved in with her son, Richard, and his wife Kathy. She remained in their home until her death. They lovingly welcomed two sons into the marriage. Being with family was most important to her. She especially loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother.
She will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by two sons COL USA (R) Donald (Leavenworth, KS) & Richard (Mead, WA), and their wives Joan and Kathy, grandchildren (Trevor, Ron, Brian, & Travis), and great-grandchildren (Gage, Delia, Ethan & Austyn).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, her parents, and siblings (Donald, Clayton, Ruth, and Luverne).
