FORK - Mrs. Brenda Joyce Dillon Sawyer, 70, wife of Neil Wayne Sawyer, of Fork passes away after an extended illness, with her husband and family by her side at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence on the morning of Tuesday, July 19, 2022.
Mrs. Sawyer, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, was born in Mullins, South Carolina on August 24, 1951, daughter of the late Leon Lacy Dillon and the late Elizabeth Rogers Dillon.
Brenda was a homemaker, she made sure her husband, children and house were in tip top order, whether it was a homecooked meal, a band aid for a scrape, or a hug and kiss on the cheek Brenda had it covered. When her grandkids began showing up, it was game over, she made sure they were spoiled rotten with a grandma's love and went above and beyond for holidays and birthdays. On her downtime, Ms. Brenda, like most of us, loved her "stories," her soap operas. From Young and the Restless, to the Guiding Light, she watched them all over the years. She enjoyed country music as well, hearing some of the old classics drift from the radio in the kitchen set her in a calm mood as she did little things throughout the day in the house. Ms. Brenda's family also said she had a bit of a sweet tooth. From cakes to pies, to a bowl of ice cream, if it was sugary, she needed a nibble of it. Mrs. Sawyer was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mrs. Sawyer in addition to her husband of fifty years, Neil Wayne Sawyer, of the home in Fork, are three sons, Jonathan David Sawyer (Brandy Lee) of Mullins, Bobby Neil Sawyer (Dana) of Dillon and Jeffery Andrew Sawyer (Freida) of Dillon; a brother, Jimmy C. Dillon of Nichols; 10 grandchildren; and 2 great grandsons.
A funeral service for Mrs. Sawyer will be held Friday, July 22, in the chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home at 12:00 noon, with Rev. Scott Collins officiating. Burial will follow the service in Mayers Memorial Park Cemetery in Mullins.
