Virgil C. Ray, Jr.
April 28, 1931 - July 16, 2022

Our beloved father, Virgil C. Ray, Jr., passed away on July 16, 2022. He was born in Raleigh, North Carolina on April 28, 1931, to Mr. Virgil C. and Ola Ray (Leach). He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie B. Ray; his daughter, Linda F. Graves; brothers, Howard, Matthew, Alvin, and Ervin; grandsons, Shawn L. Graves and Montiel S. Alleyne.

He is survived by his son, Virgil C. Ray III (Theresa); daughters, Wandra Y. Alleyne (Mark), and Kathey V. Ray; his sisters, Mary Crews (Claude) and Dorothy Mayo (John); his grandchildren, Darren L. Graves, Kellen I. Ray, Jared C. Ray, Ayanna J. Alleyne, and Marquise S. Alleyne; his great grandchildren, Chloe M. Ray, Noah B. Ray and Lincoln E. Ray; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He had a very successful Army career rising through the ranks to achieve the senior rank of Sergeant Major. He had numerous assignments across the country and overseas to include Germany and the Panama Canal Zone. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and retired in 1975 with over 20 years of service. His exceptional military service was recognized with many awards, citations, and decorations, to include two bronze stars.

He had another successful career as a retail store manager in Columbus, Ohio before retiring and moving with his wife to Floresville, Texas to be near family. He was a caring and loving father who always sacrificed for his family. He spent his later years caring for our mom until her passing. He reminded us, every day, how much he missed her. We will miss his easy nature, big smile, and soft laugh. We love and miss you, Dad! Rest in Peace!

John 16:22: "So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice and no one will take away your joy."
