He was born Jan. 26, 1947, in Yonkers, New York, the son of Thomas E. Leonard and Muriel Leonard.
Barry was a talented musician and graduated from Los Alamos High School, Class of 1965. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Army. He served overseas during the Vietnam War. After the war, he still found time for his love for music and then began his career in the medical field as a prosthetist, where he gained the love and respect of many patients and friends. Those who knew Barry knew him as a kind soul with a tough outer edge that was always up for a good laugh. He developed a love for good food and was a self-proclaimed chef. Barry was a loving man to his friends and family, sharing a very special bond with his daughter Shawnessy. Barry was a loyal member of the North Texas Patriot Guard, where he enjoyed honoring those who served and their families.
In addition, to his parents, he was preceded in death by his younger brother, Robert (Bobby) Leonard.
Survivors: Wife, Dorinda Leonard; son, Thomas (Tommy) Leonard; daughters, Shawnessy Leonard-Ransom and husband, Will of Granbury and Jennifer Seifert; six grandchildren, John and Nancy Ransom, Bella and Drake Tucker and Leeson and Darian Toomer; two great-grandchildren, Atticus Toomer-Flannigan and Korson Toomer-Jenkins; one sister, Bonnie Burrell and husband, Duane Burrell of Florida; and nieces and nephews, Jonathan Leonard, Cara Leonard-Cross, Michael and Stephen Burrell.
Barry will be honored by The North Texas Patriot Guard as well as receive full military honors from The U.S. Army.
