108 Private Edward Cronau (not Cronan as on the cemetery memorial), 2nd Queensland Mounted Infantry. Son of Johannes Jost Cronau and Anna Elizabeth Banff (Prussian emigrants from Ernsthausen in the German state of Hessen-Nassau). Volunteered for service in South Africa during the Second Anglo Boer War. He died of enteric fever (typhoid) in Bloemfontein, Orange Free State on 1 April 1900 aged 25 years. He is also commemorated on the Queensland Boer War memorial in Anzac Square, Ann Street, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia (see: https://vwma.org.au/explore/memorials/2756) and on the Australian War Memorial Roll of Honour in Treloar Crescent, Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia (see: https://vwma.org.au/explore/memorials/1797).
