Darrell was a retired employee of PNC Bank, a freelance website designer, an avid genealogist and a member of Campbell's Chapel United Baptist Church. Darrell loved the Lord with all his heart, soul and mind, and while he suffered from several health problems throughout his life, he never lost his faith and did his best to serve Him. Darrell was known for his wit, and usually began or ended most conversations with a joke or one of his humorous life experiences, most of which were true.
Darrell was also a member of Valley-Daylight Lodge #511 F&AM, Kosair Shriners, a Fellow in the Grand College of Rites of the United States, The International Order of Turtles, The Imperial Shrine Hillbillies and The Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels. In addition, he received many honorary memberships within Freemasonry, the Shriners, and other Masonic appendant and affiliated bodies, as well as several public accolades during his lifetime, all of which he deeply treasured.
Darrell was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 30 years, Starla R. Lawson Waddell, his parents, Reverend Raymond L. Waddell and Nellie F. Davidson Waddell, and his brother , Donnie R. Waddell.
Darrell is survived by his son, Jarrett A. Waddell (Kayla), adopted son, Tony Lyle (Brandy), adopted grandchildren, Haley and Gage Lyle, and a host of family and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ratterman Southwest Funeral Home, 4832 Cane Run Road. Visitation will be from 12 – 8 p.m. Wednesday. A private burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery.
