Funeral services for James "Dutter" Rogers 84, of Athens have been scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Tuesday July 19, 2022 at Autry's Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home with Bro. Jeremiah Thomas and brother Larry Fondren officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday evening July18, 2022 from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
James w. "Dutter" Rogers passed away Friday July 15, 2022 at his home in Athens, after returning from 31 days of hospital and rehab for a broken hip.
He was born October 4, 1937 in Wortham, Texas to Otis F. Rogers and Alma Gertrude Wilson Rogers. He worked several jobs until going to work at Coon Creek Club for many years before he retired. James was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in France for 3 years. He was a lifetime member of Post 7103 of Athens. He was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church for many years.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Rogers, Timmy Smiley, Terry Smiley, Tony Jackson, Stephen Rogers and Bailey Smiley.
Honorary pallbearers are James Rogers, Cory Rogers, Cully Rogers, Lance Rogers, Seth Jackson, Tim Smiley, Jr., Zach Smiley and Josh Smiley.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, brothers; Delmer, Fred, Doyle and Roy Rogers, 1 nephew Ricky Don Rogers.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Judy (Parks) Rogers, sons; Steven Rogers, Cully Rogers, Tommy Rogers, Terry Smiley, Tim Smiley and Tony Jackson, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brothers; Ray and Donnie Rogers, and a host of friends.
