JOHN J. MIELKE

John J. Mielke, 84, formerly of 614 Ruggles St., Fond du Lac, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, at All About Life Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on June 19, 1921, in Berlin, a son of Theodore and Anna Malson Mielke.

John married Virginia Lang on Feb. 6, 1943, in Presentation Catholic Church of North Fond du Lac, where John was a lifelong member.

In the 1930's he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corp in Wisconsin and then joined the United States Army and served overseas in Europe during WWII. John was honorably discharged in the fall of 1945. After the war Mr. MIelke was employed by the Chicago and North Western Railroad as a switchman for 33 years until his retirement in 1981.

John belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council 664. He enjoyed the outdoors very much, especially doing yard work and maintaining the flower gardens.

Mr. Mielke is survived by his wife of almost 63 years; three sons, Phillip (Margaret) Mielke of San Gabriel, Calif., Anthony (Steve" (Linda) Mielke, and Michael (Ann) Mielke, both of Fond du Lac; six grandchildren, Preston Mielke of San Gabriel, Calif., Michelle (Eric) Nelson of Minneapolis, Minn., Stacey Mielke, Brien Mielke, Adam Mielke and David Mielke, all of Fond du Lac; one sister, Elaine Goodman of Fond du Lac; other relatives and friends.

John is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 205, at Zacherl Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at Presentation Catholic Church in North Fond du Lac. The Rev. John Simon will preside. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation: Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 210, 205, at Zacherl Funeral Home and also from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005.

Zacherl Funeral home is serving the family.
