Vivian Ann (Orsak) Prewitt, 77, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away on Feb. 24, 2022, surrounded by her loving family as she went to be with her Father in Heaven. She is survived by her beloved husband of 34 years, David Prewitt; daughter, Lorene Schaefer and her husband John Hooi of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Frances (Feuerbach) Maier and her husband Kevin of Rockport, Ind.; grandchildren, Kate Schaefer of Washington, D.C., Alex Schaefer of Washington, D.C., Tyler Maier of Evansville, Ind., Mattie Schaefer of Burlington, Vt., and Joshua Maier of Rockport; sisters, Ann Egemo of The Villages, Fla., Virginia Loftis of Converse, Texas, and Louise Daughtry of Charlotte, Texas; and many, many nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
Vivian was born in Charlotte, Texas, on Aug. 29, 1944, the 12th of 13 children to Adolph and Ollie (Suggs) Orsak. She was a lifelong Christian and active member of her church communities. When her children were young, she taught Vacation Bible School and her contributions to church suppers were always relished.
Vivian met the love of her life, David, in Alaska. Later she moved to Kentucky and David followed and they married on Sept. 26, 1987, in Owensboro, Ky. They returned to Anchorage in 1990 where Vivian was an active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, working in their Vacation Bible School program, chaperoning youth group winter expeditions, and serving on its Church Council. Vivian never missed an opportunity to share her love for the Lord through her acts of service.
Vivian had a strong work ethic and was a proud member and retiree of the Teamsters Local 959. She enjoyed a long retirement filled with travel and many celebrations. Two of her favorite trips were the trip with her church to the Holy Land and her retirement cruise with all five of her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed time spent with and sharing stories about her siblings, her children and her grandchildren.
A Celebration of Vivian's Life will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 3230 Lake Otis Parkway, Anchorage, AK 99508, on Monday, March 7, 2022, at 2 p.m. The family invites you to attend to join them in praising God for the gift of Vivian in their lives and in the life of St. Mark community. A reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the nonprofit "Friends of Pets," where Vivian and David adopted two of their three beloved dogs, https://friendsofpets.org/get-involved/donate; or to her home church of St. Mark Lutheran Church.
