Irene E. Griswold, 83, 2119 Ave. C, died at 4:05 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1997, at Fort Madison Community Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born Dec. 17, 1913, at, Fort Madison, the daughter of George E. and Margaret C. Hueser Britton. She married Morris T. Griswold on July 26, 1941, at Fort Madison. He preceded her in death November, 1978.
She was a homemaker and sold Avon for a number of years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Altar and Rosary Society of the church, Daughters of Isabella and Catholic Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by one son, Michael Griswold, Burlington; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Carol) Salli, Schenectady, NY and Mrs. Jeffery (Mary Jo) Creen, Fort Madison; two grandchildren; two brothers,Richard Britton, Fort Madison and John Britton, Davenport. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, George Britton Jr and one sister, Mildred DeLong.
Friends called the afternoon on Friday, Oct. 17, at King Lynk Funeral Home, Fort Madison, where a Rosary was recited at 3 p.m. by the Altar and Rosary Society, Daughters of Isabella and Catholic Ladies Auxiliary and a Wake Service was be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Sacred Heart Church, with Rev. Tim Sheedy officiating. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fort Madison.
A memorial has been established for Sacred Heart Church or P.A.W. Animal Shelter and contributions were made at King Lynk Funeral Home.
