"Michael 'Mike' Edward Neville
Mike was the first of three children born to Donald Ivan Neville and Eva 'Irene' Hunter-Neville on December 17, 1937 at Mercy Hospital in San Diego. His father was a Firefighter who had served in the US Marines and his mother was a Registered Nurse.
He grew up playing baseball on the sand lots, taking regular trips to the San Diego Zoo, meeting friends at the beach, going to Padres games, and delivering newspapers for extra money. He regularly attended church and youth group at Point Loma Presbyterian Church, where he also became a Boy Scout... An Eagle Scout, and he even Served as Mayor of the City of San Diego for a day. He graduated from Point Loma High School in 1956.
While in the youth group at church, he met his wife to be, Carol Warner, and on July 1, 1961 they were married. Mike kept active with the Boy Scouts and became Jr. Scoutmaster of his troop until he was drafted to the US Army in 1962. He was stationed in Fort Huachuca, Arizona, where he and Carol had their first daughter. After leaving the Army, they returned to San Diego, and to the church where they met, and Mike became the Scoutmaster for the troop that the church sponsored. He went to work for Rohr Aircraft Corporation, and before long, their second daughter was born.
In his father's footsteps, Mike pursued his dream of becoming a firefighter, and shortly after he was hired by the City of San Diego, his third daughter was born.
In 1969, Mike learned of the groundbreaking of a new community called Mira Mesa and he and Carol bought a home and raised their daughters there.
He worked 24 hour shifts for the fire department, did various construction jobs on his days off, started Mira Mesa's first Boy Scout troop, and rode his bicycle to work in Linda Vista to keep in shape and still found time to spread love to his wife and 3 daughters. He was a Charter Member of Mira Mesa Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder and was head of the building committee. and he never refused when his daughters wanted to take him to school for 'sharing'.
With his best friend, Warren, he built a successful Electrical Contracting Company, then, with Carol running the office, he took over the business completely.
He retired as an engineer from the fire department after 24 years of duty in 1992 and finally retired completely several years later so that he and Carol could travel. At one point or another, he was a Moose, an Elk, and a member of American Legion, but he will forever be a Clamper.
He took pride in raising 'Old Glory' every morning, and lowering her each evening.
He was a quiet man, a humble man, a simple man.
He lived a life of service. Service to God, his Country, his community, and his family.
He joined his wife, Carol, in heaven on June 27, 2022.
